Mega Huge Update

Right so since my last post I have killed my water pump and while replacing that discovered that I needed a new timing chain desperately. So all that got fixed. Then my Power steering started acting up so I fitted a GM Power steering pump that Ford uses on it's van's because they are better and a higher pressure system. Yet more time went by then I threw a push rod in my engine and lost all oil pressure. I fixed the rod but now I'm way down on power and my engine has a smoke screen that James Bond would be jealous of.
So for the last 2 weeks my truck has been parked at the garage while I strip a new engine out of a donor truck along with it's wiring harness and fuel system. Monday the last of the parts I need to prep the engine before I set aside a weekend to install everything into my Bronco.

Stuck on a Hoist

Well tonight we put my truck on a hoist to try and find out why my breaks were acting up. Well one of the rear drum's is warped, also on the other side I apparently bent an axle today and that broke a a seal so gear oil is now leaking out. All thins means that I have some work to do tomorrow. As an added bonus I should be getting a new front bench seat installed tomorrow as well.

Today Dave and I went wheeling. It was some damn good fun. I got to improve my off road driving, although that doesn't mean I'm perfect yet. I got stuck in the snow twice and Dave had to pull me out. I also got high centered on my dif's which were nicely dug into the ground. But I also got myself out a few spots too. Like I got shot out of a hole the wrong way and slid strait into a tree, it only bent the bumper a bit. Then later in an attempt to fix the bumper I smashed the front drivers side into a wall of dirt. It didn't work it just turned my head light slightly to one side. But it was really good and I didn't have any problem's getting home safe and sound. I haven't got a call from Dave so I assume everything went well for him once we parted ways.

There was one other slight glitch. On the way out to the main road I decided to skim a large puddle and it kinda grabbed the whole truck and spun me off into the ditch. I didn't even need the 4X4 to get it out.

Drunken Update

So I have my truck back and it's all good except for the fact the the rear drivers wheel always trys to lockup under breaking. Not to mention that when I park all I smell is burnt breaks, so tomorrow morning we're gonna look at that.

Tomorrow night is a good by party for one of my friends.

My friend and mechanic Dave wants to got off roading Sunday because it should be nice and muddy. Next weekend I might be going camping with some friends too.

Shockingly Broken

Well apparently when my last starter motor wouldn't disengage it may have eaten the teeth on the fly wheel and as a result my new starter only got about 5 starts before what little that was left of the teeth gave up the ghost. So yet again my truck is sitting lifelessly in the Telus yard waiting for a Flywheel to come in.

On the up side I got to see Katie and Mel briefly last night.

Always remember if you want to know if a car is a lemon just ask me if I would buy it.

Well as of tonight my truck is back on the road with everything fixed that I broke. Now Dave is trying to get me a few non-essential components and my Lift Kit.

Off Roading

Well I went 4 wheeling today with a rather large group headed by my mechanic and friend Dave. After we found the meeting point at the wrong gas station, we all met up and headed out to the trail. After about 10 mins Dave got bored and decided to climb a hill which he then started bouncing back down towards me who was coming up behind. Thankfully my truck didn't have to stop him because he thoughtfully rolled it into a few trees. It took about an hour to recover his jeep so we got lunch started and appraised the damage to the jeep. It took about 3 hours to "fix" the rear differential in the Jeep. When we were setting off again my starter got stuck on and melted a battery terminal. This however wasn't a problem because I'm not a normal North American and I have a Manual. We disconnected the power to the starter and pushed the truck down a hill.
However this could not be the end of problems. I having not gotten my Truck dirty yet I saw a huge puddle and decided to go for it. The girls riding along agreed and I hit the puddle at about 60KM in second gear. The end of the puddle wasn't smooth I slammed into the bank and shot the truck into the air getting some good flight for a 3 Ton Truck. Unfortunately the Landing seriously damaged my steering box.
We called it a day an limped out then the 3 trucks that had problems me, Dave and Dan slowly limped home taking an extra 2 hours to get back and ending with me having to tow Dave's Jeep the last leg because I had more power than Dan and Dave's transfer-case and rear diff had both given out.

My truck had the added bonus that if my steering went on the way home it would most likely result in a high-speed roll, so we arranged for space for the girls and their dog's in other trucks for the trip back.

All in all it was a fun trip and it only cost me a steering box, starter motor, and the second starter cellynoid in a week.

Hurried Update

Ok so I have been trying to get my truck ready for a 4X4 trip this Sunday. How ever Thursday when i was going to the shop to install my bushing's my started celinoid died, While I was in a car wash bay too boot. I got pulled out of the was by someone with a jeep and their jeep damn near killed it's clutch doing it. Silas stopped by the car was and we got the truck going again. When I got it to the garage it took a little bit to figure out what the problem was then by the time I had gotten the parts the day was over. Friday got the new Celinoid in and fixed a broken wire, got the truck running, cleaned the carb and tuned it a little. Now because of all this I'm still without a parking break which was supposed to go on yesterday and I'm now gonna give it one last try to get the bushing's on before tomorrow.

Well I should have seen today coming a mile away but no, it managed to sneak-up on me. I was almost happy with how things were going until I got to work this morning.
I was given a red light ticket and a letter of repremand to go along with it. Originaly I thought no big deal I'll just pay the almost $300 ticket with the money from my second job this weekend. That job got canceled later in the day. Man I am not warming up to this place at all. I should also point out that the ticket was for me running a red light on Jan 15th 2008, Telus recived the ticket from the police on Jan 29th. However I was not made aware of it's existance until this morning March 6th. How the fuck does it take over a month to say oh by the way you ran a light????

Polar Challenge

Right so I'm sure some of you have seen Top Gear's Polar Special.
Now that was the first car to drive to the North Pole(Magnetic North), now they had the help of Toyota to do this. I however would like to do the same thing only with my Tank. I did a little bit of digging and amazingly that Toyota stock actually weighs 300 pounds more than my truck. So weight is not a problem. My issue is that in about 3 years when I want to attempt to do this the Ice may not be thick enough or far reaching enough to allow me to try this. Ideally I would like to Challenge Clarkson to a race his new Toyota VS my Old banger.

The Good, The Bad, My Life

Well this morning I was given my Permanent position with Telus. I also got my insurance and plate transferred to my Tank.
The bad is that although my Tank is off the lift it is missing front hubs so there is duct tape there to keep dirt out until the parts arrive, also both my front and rear drive shafts are on the crap. The front could do to just have the u-joints replaced but the whole rear shaft is buggered.
So right now my Tank is sitting in my parking spot at the Telus North Garage.

Tonight I actually started to put parts back onto The Tank. The goal is to get it drivable by closing time Thursday night so that I can park it somewhere other than the shop cause It would cost me money and I don't want that.

So apparently my drive train is kinda fucked and needs about 2-3 thousand Dollars in parts. The frame floor and basics are in amazing shape so what I'm gonna do is start the rebuild tomorrow night and my Bike is up for sale. The truck has been weighted and comes in at a little over 6100 LB. I have Christened it The Tank.

OK so I did get the Bronco tonight.

Since I know you are all dieing to know what's wrong with it I'll give you the run-down.
The alignment is so bad the wheel has to be almost a quarter of a turn to the right. The signals don't work. The front tires rub on the quarter panels when I turn because they are too big. The locking wheel hubs that you lock to go into 4x4 and unlock when you are just gonna use 2x4 are stuck locked in 4x4. The side mirrors are useless and there is no rear view mirror. The battery connections are kinda wonky. The alternator warning light was on the whole hour long drive home. The Parking break doesn't work. The door locks don't work, the roll down windows are on their last legs.

On top of all of that I'm back to AM only radio. But I love it and it sounds soo good.

Tomorrow after work I am going to drive outside the city an hour to talk to a man about swapping trucks. My 87 F-150 for his 79 Bronco. It needs some work but with any luck I'll be driving back to Calgary in a Bronco. I have to take a tape measure with me to see if it will fit into my parkade.

Well this morning the city was totally frozen. My truck started because it's mine and therefore amazing. However that was the only thing working. I had to fight with the park-aid door to get it open and even then it wouldn't open enough ti get my truck out. So I went over to the bus stop and called the line to see when the next bus is but they were delayed more than 2 hours due to equipment malfunction. Called all the cab companies once I got through they told me that they didn't have any cars because most of them won't start. Thus I kinda had the day off.

On the plus side I got a call and I start my part-time job tomorrow night.

I was told once by a wise friend of mine that "The things you own end-up owning you.". I have found this to be very true but I tried not to let it get in the way of my rather random and hap hazard life. Unfortunately it may be that my Motorcycle could end-up hindering me in my attempt to cut down on the cost of living. Tomorrow I'm going to try and talk to someone about trading my truck for a van that I'm interested in. We shall have to see where things lead me.

So lately I have been thinking about how much money I spend on my living expenses and am really considering Living in a Van down by the river. The only thing stopping my from doing this is my Motorcycle. With the van I can blend in more so than a truck with a camper on the back but I need to have some place to keep my bike.

Well I made it to Vancouver without killing myself too much. My hear did suffer though because 50km into my journey and at 9:15 at night my muffler decided to break off and drag on the ground untill I had a chance to stop and kick it the rest of the way off. I got all the way to Chilliawack before it was business hours and found a shop willing to just put it back on and not want to install some factory designed thing. I am amazed at how much fun I had driving a 2WD Truck all over the snow covered and mostly abandoned road. Total whiteout and only 8 sandags to help weigh the back down. I can't wait to do it all again tomorrow but then it's will actually be light out hopefully.

Well tomorrow I'm heading to Vancouver for the RantRadio party. I will be leaving sometime after work. I have to adjust my driver headlight first and throw a few changes of clothing in a bag but that's it. My return trip is going to start 7:30 Sunday morning and I have 2 passengers one of them is only going halfway.
While there I'm planing on either crashing on someone's couch or making use of the bench seat in my truck. The list of things that could go wrong is endless, .... I really need a camera crew to follow me around.

Another Repair

Yesterday I took my truck in to replace the fuel pump in the side tank. Once I got the tank off and looked inside it was clear that the tanks wasn't salvageable. So I ended up with a whole new tank and pump. As a test for it I had to make a trip to Edmonton and back yesterday. Didn't even cost me any gas my passenger payed for it all.

There was someone who was supposed to look at the truck this morning but he never showed.

Truck Shuffle

Right so here is the lowdown. An opportunity has arisen where I might be able to get a toy that I have wanted for a long time. My friend Dave has a 1978 Ford Bronco that he is willing to let me have for $1200. The catch is that it needs alot of work because it's sat for the last 10 years. So I am currently trying to sell my Pick-up for at least $1200 I'm hoping around 2k. Then I can cancel insurance and parking for the truck. The Bronco will be taken from Dave's House to his shop where it will sit while I slowly rebuilt it to be street legal and functional. I'm guessing this will take me one or 2 months.

The new truck has a 460 engine Ford Big block. Due to the price of gas and the fact I really want to keep that powerful engine, Dave is going to help me convert it to Propane. I also have to replace all the bushings, and the brakes are totally seized and most likely garbage. But I get my Bronco which the 78 and 79's are basically Tanks with Ford emblems on them.

Ok my Tachometer, Oil pressure gauge , Voltmeter are all dead. The gas gauge was at 1/2 tank now it's started climbing. The front left break is rubbing on the rotor making a nice slow burning smell for ppl who drive behind me. Finally I'm now fairly certain that the rad temp gauge is stuck.

But other than that everything is working perfectly, except the side gas tank is still totally unusable. Also the driver's side mirror only looks at the side of my truck.

Last night was the Telus Construction Department's X-mas Party. So today I had to go and get my truck which was left at the bar due to inebriation and I forgot I brought it. I decided to be nice to my truck since I left it alone in a strange part of town all night. Took it to the car wash and my god it's actually a red truck and looks rather nice when clean. Unfortunately for some reason cleaning the outside of the truck has angered other parts. My tach now only ever says 0. Perhaps I will fix that when I replace the hood release cable.

Well my truck is not filling the cab with toxic fog anymore. It only took 3 hours of work and 2 hours of running all over town to find a heater core that's made properly. We found something close enough not exact but it works great.
Shame I got set back $240.

Yesterday afternoon, my truck decided to show me it's new skill. When I turned the heater on it started blowing a torrent of fog out of the vents. I tracked down the problem today to a leaking heater core. So it turns out the fog was vaporized engine coolant.

Well I am totally drained. My bank account is being sucked dry by everyone and their dog.
On top of that I started back to Physiotherapy today.

I just want to make it through this winter without going nuts. Work isn't helping with this goal, I have been lent out to the "Warm Home Program". Which means I get to freeze to death putting lightning protection on and setting up the lines for the tech's to be able to connect the line more easily. It's very repetitive and mind numbing.

Ok so I was on my way home from the garage this afternoon. I had just replaced my front barrings. Then 4 blocks from home the damn thing dies in the middle of the intersection. I manage to get it out of there after much swearing and threatening. Let it sit for a bit then fire it up and get 2 more block before it dies again. This time I call a mechanic friend who has the same model truck. He don't know. Get it going again and this time I make in front of the building but have enough momentum to coast up to the parkade door. Fight with it a bit more and get it to limp into my parking spot.
Now it sounds like it's an interruption of fuel but I have no idea weather it's something in the tank blocking the intake or a clog in the fuel lines or if the injectors are clogged.

Long Over Due

Right so I have been e-mail by a few ppl who apparently do read this to see if I'm still alive. I know it's been over a month since I posted here so I'll fill you all in.

I did my little trip to Nova Scotia and got so damn cramped up in the plane it Hurt forever.

I just bought a Winter truck last Friday. It's a 1987 Ford F-150, currently it's only 2 wheel drive but that is going to be upgraded later. It took me 2 days to repair everything to make it road legal. Thankfully a friend of mine has his own Garage that I can do work at. Below are some pics of my Truck.

True to form the Government would like to make yet another move to show us that they work for Corporations rather than private citizens. In a move to try and help the Financially failing domestic auto manufacturers. The government in light of falling profits of domestic company's are trying to help them out by changing the laws on importing vehicles from 15 year to 25. Thus preventing smaller and more fuel efficient car from reaching the domestic market. Japan, China and the UK have had more stringent rules on fuel economy long before the weak North American laws.

Well today Lee and I went up to Drumheller to look around. It was rather fun, we did miss the pancake house. I got to kick his ass on some go-karts. It was more entertaining than I was expecting and looks to be a good place to go cruising on the bike.

For no reason I'm looking at getting my PAL some time later in July.

Well things seam to come up that delay my glorious return home. The house I wanted is gone plus would have needed more work than even I can manage.

On the positive side I got my bike checked out and everything is fine with it.
This weekend I'm gonna go and checkout a place that imports, sells and services Unimog's. Also Tim's Band is having their first public performance that I must go and see. There may also be a road trip up to Drumheller but that is unknown since it has already been pushed back once.

OK so the highlight of my day today was the fact that a rather happy looking dog wandered up to the 2 Telus Van's. Mine and Wayne's, then her pissed all over mine. I thought it was fucking hilarious. Wayne just thought that the dog must have been a former employee.

Now I might be moving again into a 3 bedroom place to have more space which means I have to change my address for the 4th time since I got here.
Work. ..... right, anyway over the next 4 weeks I have a few Exams and courses to pass for work. If I for some reason fail one of the major things then I'm done. Fired gone, under the conditions of my employment I need to get these Certifications. The first of which is a CCNT I take the test for that this Friday.
If for some reason things go south with Telus I am very much going to try and move back to Nova Scotia next summer.

Oh and my side gig as a contractor for the furniture industry is so laid back. Even though my job for this Saturday got kibosh-ed.

Friday is gonna be packed. In the morning I have to go to COI to talk to Norm about possible part-time employment there. Then if the weather is good heading out for a ride, I may have company don't know yet. Round about 7 I'm meeting an old friend at a local Tim's to catch since we haven't seen each other in over a year. Well I passed my climbing course with flying colors yesterday. My time was 3 mins 58 seconds and I had 8 minutes to do it in.

Right now I'm enjoying the view of a very attractive, tall young woman suntanning herself in the little park that my building has. Thankfully I have a perfect view from my computer desk. ^_^ I somehow thing that she is the daughter of the landlady Deila.

Today we did the ladder certification part of my climbing course. I was told at the end of the day by the instructor that I was the only one who did the test perfect no error's what so ever.

Tomorrow is the untimed part of the pole climbing test and Friday is the timed part.

My arms are very sore and my hands are cramping up so bad that I couldn't pick-up a pen at the end of the day today. But it's good fun. I can already do every thing that I have to in under 8 minutes. Which is what needs to be done in order to successfully complete the course.

Some of the other guys on the course are a little apprehensive at height so to help them get used to it we are going to climb up to 20 ft and toss a basketball around.

So I went in for my second interview at Telus this morning and I think that it went well. They gave me a pile of security forms to fillout. I know that it has been something like 10 days since my last post so here is an update.
Last Friday Me and 3 other guys had to carry 4 500lb Hutches up to the 5th and 4th floors with a few half floors tossed in just to make the trip longer. So naturally my back started to hurt, it got worse over the week causing em to loose sleep and finally yesterday when I woke up it was just gone. So I had to take the day off. Today I was given a "Light Day" which was nothing of the sort. I was so pissed at the absolute incompetence displayed by my employer this morning I almost walked. To top things off I had to work till 9pm tonight which means I didn't get my Bike today. In theory I get to tomorrow at 3pm.

Now I'm going to the Bar cause I need a Drink!

I talked to the guys at Blackfoot Motor-sports today and setup everything for my bike. The grand-total for my Bike, the Windshield for it, a new Helmet, Jacket and 2 pair of riding gloves comes to $12,023.75 . Well within the budget. I was going to get a new Bedroom set today but the seller decided to wait till 5 minutes to 8 at night to make arrangements for me to pick it up. He has known for a week that today was the only day that I could come and get it. I can't go get it now because I have already told me helper to forget it and I have to be somewhere in an hour and a half.

If doesn't sell it to anyone else I can try again in 2 weeks to get it when I have my next day off.

Today work tried to get me to work a split shift because one of the account managers fucked up. He had a job that couldn't be done till 6pm set to go out just before noon. They wanted me to kill 4 hours from 1:30pm When all my work was done, till 5:30pm to go and drive the truck for an hour. I told them fuck no, and that the damn account manager could drive the fucking truck. The dispatcher didn't like that too much and tried to tell me that I worked when he said I did. I had to remind him that this is Calgary. If I don't like the way McIntyre is treating me I can go down the street and work for the next guy without missing a day. He then Shut-up.

I do enjoy the perks of a Boom.

This morning half of the money that I had lent out cleared back into my bank account. It's nice to start to clear this business up and move on to new things.
